Metabolic Worldwide sales for the metabolic category were 1.1 billion, up 20 per cent. The Avandia franchise Avandia and Avandamet ; grew 24 per cent for the year with US sales up 20 per cent to 755 million. Avandamet, a combination of Avandia and metformin HCI, expanded the Avandia metabolic franchise with its US launch in the fourth quarter 2002. In Europe, Avandia has benefited from increasing physician acceptance with sales of 70 million, up 57 per cent. The franchise should benefit further from the EU approval of Avandamet in December 2003. Avandia also did very well in International markets with sales of 106 million, up 40 per cent. Vaccines Sales of vaccines grew two per cent to 1.1 billion, supported by the Infanrix Pediarix franchise, up 32 per cent to 336 million. The hepatitis franchise declined 13 per cent to 417 million reflecting competitive pressure in the USA and Europe. In the USA, GlaxoSmithKline's new Pediarix vaccine was launched in January 2003. Pediarix adds protection against hepatitis B and poliomyelitis to the Infanrix combination and results in up to six fewer injections for infants. Cardiovascular and urogenital In 2003, Cogeg sales grew 28 per cent to 361 million, benefiting from recent data that showed a highly significant statistical difference in survival between Ckreg and metoprolol in patients with heart failure. Levitra vardenafil ; , a new agent for the treatment of erectile dysfunction, was launched in the USA in August 2003 and in Europe in the first half of the year. Levitra was researched and developed by Bayer AG and is co-promoted with GlaxoSmithKline. Oncology and emesis Sales of Zofran grew 16 per cent to 774 million, driven by a strong US performance, up 20 per cent to 575 million. Other therapeutic areas Sales of Zantac fell 13 per cent to 328 million with declines in all regions.

Study did not answer the question of whether treatment of depression can decrease or negate this association. Depression during the postmyocardial infarction period has a significant negative impact on functional status and the ability to adhere to cardiac rehabilitation plans. The presence of depressive symptoms following an ischemic event has been correlated with a decreased effect on the maintenance of healthy behavior changes during and after the rehabilitation period smoking cessation exercise class lifestyle changes ; .1215 Studies have found that depressed patients were 40% less likely to stop smoking, more likely to quit exercise programs, and experienced greater stress and social difficulties after a myocardial infarction.1214 In a study by Steffens et al., 335 hospitalized patients with CAD were interviewed with regard to functional capacity.15 This process included evaluation of the patient's ability to perform activities of daily living basic selfmaintenance tasks ; as well as instrumental activities of daily living such as preparing meals, doing yard work, managing finances, etc. ; . The presence of depression in patients with CAD was associated with significant deficits in the ability to complete activities of daily living and instrumental activities of daily living resulting in increased functional impairment as compared with a nondepressed control group. Although one cannot assign a direct causal relationship from this trial alone, this degree of functional impairment should be of great concern to all health care providers and crestor.

The coreg product can contain up to four image cubes: 1. the VNIR cube with high-resolution nominally 5m ; sampling of bands ABCD; 2. the IR cube with low-resolution nominally 20m ; sampling of bands EFGHIJKLMNO; 3. a VNIR cube with the same low-resolution as the IR cube this has no new information, but makes the simultaneous exploitation of the visible and infrared bands more convenient and 4. a top-of-atmosphere brightness temperature cube involving only the thermal IR bands JKLMN. Not all bands are active for all images, and if for instance bands ABCD are not active as is often the case for a nighttime collect ; , then the VNIR cubes will not be provided. Quality images are provided for whichever of the data cubes are available except we do not produce a quality image for the brightness temperature cube since that information is in the IR quality cube ; . In addition to the data and quality images, the coreg product provides a wealth of auxiliary information about the overflight, and about the coregistration process. This report on a class of drugs called beta-blockers is part of a Consumers Union and Consumer Reports project to help you find safe, effective medicines that give you the most value for your health care dollar. To learn more about the project and other drugs we've evaluated, go to CRBestBuyDrugs . Beta-blockers are used by tens of millions of Americans everyday. In 2004 they were the fifth most widely prescribed class of medicine. They are used primarily to treat people with high blood pressure. But they are also used to treat other heart conditions. These include angina heart or chest pain ; , abnormal heart rhythms, coronary artery blockages, and heart failure. They are also used, along with other treatments, to help prevent repeat heart attacks in people who have already had one, to prevent migraine headaches, and to treat performance or stage-fright anxiety. Fourteen beta-blockers are currently available. All but two -- carvedilol Coreg ; and metoprolol succinate Toprol XL ; -- are now available as generic drugs. These two drugs are chemically distinct from other beta-blockers, too. Some beta-blockers are very inexpensive, costing about to a month. See Table 3 on pages 10-13 ; . Metoprolol succinate Toprol XL ; is priced competitively with generics. The 14 drugs are and lozol and Order coreg online.

ASSOCIATION BETWEEN PREGNANCY-INDUCED HYPERTENSION AND POST-PARTUM INFECTION IN THE INSTITUTO MATERNO INFANTIL, BOGOT, COLOMBIA. CASE CONTROL STUDY. Diabetic patients receiving insulin or oral hypoglycemic agents, should be cautioned about these possibilities. In heart failure patients with diabetes, carvedilol therapy may lead to worsening hyperglycemia, which responds to intensification of hypoglycemic therapy. It is recommended that blood glucose be monitored when carvedilol dosing is initiated, adjusted, or discontinued. Studies designed to examine the effects of carvedilol on glycemic control in patients with diabetes and heart failure have not been conducted. In a study designed to examine the effects of carvedilol on glycemic control in a population with mild-to-moderate hypertension and well-controlled type 2 diabetes mellitus, carvedilol had no adverse effect on glycemic control, based on HbA1c measurements [see Clinical Studies 14.4 ; ]. 5.7 Peripheral Vascular Disease -blockers can precipitate or aggravate symptoms of arterial insufficiency in patients with peripheral vascular disease. Caution should be exercised in such individuals. 5.8 Deterioration of Renal Function Rarely, use of carvedilol in patients with heart failure has resulted in deterioration of renal function. Patients at risk appear to be those with low blood pressure systolic blood pressure 100 mm Hg ; , ischemic heart disease and diffuse vascular disease, and or underlying renal insufficiency. Renal function has returned to baseline when carvedilol was stopped. In patients with these risk factors it is recommended that renal function be monitored during up-titration of carvedilol and the drug discontinued or dosage reduced if worsening of renal function occurs. 5.9 Anesthesia and Major Surgery If treatment with COREG is to be continued perioperatively, particular care should be taken when anesthetic agents which depress myocardial function, such as ether, cyclopropane, and trichloroethylene, are used [see Overdosage 10 ; for information on treatment of bradycardia and hypertension]. 5.10 Thyrotoxicosis -adrenergic blockade may mask clinical signs of hyperthyroidism, such as tachycardia. Abrupt withdrawal of -blockade may be followed by an exacerbation of the symptoms of hyperthyroidism or may precipitate thyroid storm. 5.11 Pheochromocytoma In patients with pheochromocytoma, an -blocking agent should be initiated prior to the use of any -blocking agent. Although carvedilol has both - and -blocking pharmacologic activities, there has been no experience with its use in this condition. Therefore, caution should be taken in the administration of carvedilol to patients suspected of having pheochromocytoma. 5.12 Prinzmetal's Variant Angina Agents with non-selective -blocking activity may provoke chest pain in patients with Prinzmetal's variant angina. There has been no clinical experience with carvedilol in these patients although the -blocking activity may prevent such symptoms. However, caution should!

Performance for the quarter was impacted most in the USA, where sales declined 31% to 226 million. Reported US sales growth was also impacted by comparison to a strong performance in Q2 2006 when sales grew 33% ; , which benefited from restocking of Avandia and Avandamet. For the week-ending 13th July 2007, Avandia's share of new and total retail prescriptions in the oral anti-diabetic market was 6.2% and 7.4%, respectively compared with shares of 11.5% and 11.7% respectively for the week-ending 18th May 2007. These represent decreases of approximately 46% and 37% in the volume of new and total prescriptions since the publication of the meta-analysis. Sales in Europe grew 20% to 63 million driven by growing use of Avandamet with limited impact on performance to date from the published meta-analysis. Sales in International markets declined 9% to 60 million. Lamictal, Valtrex, and Coreg combined sales grew 22% to 699 million Sales of Lamictal, for the treatment of epilepsy and bipolar disorder, grew 18% to 271 million, driven by strong sales performance in the USA, up 28% to 221 million. Sales of Valtrex, for herpes, rose 14% to 226 million, with US sales up 16% to 161 million. Sales of Coreg and Coreg CR, for heart conditions, were 202 million, up 37%. Based on the most recent retail prescription data, Coreg CR now represents over 21% of new prescriptions for the total Coreg franchise. Avodart, Requip, Boniva and Arixtra delivered combined turnover of 213 million, up 54% Sales of Requip, for Parkinson's disease and restless legs syndrome, grew 41% to 84 million in the quarter. Avodart, for benign prostatic hyperplasia enlarged prostate ; , continued to perform strongly with sales up 39% to 67 million. GSK's share of the co-promotion income for Boniva Bonviva, the only oncemonthly medicine for post-menopausal osteoporosis, was 36 million. Sales of Arixtra, a once-daily anticoagulant, doubled to 26 million. During the quarter, GSK received a positive opinion from EU regulatory authorities to extend use of Arixtra for the treatment of patients with acute coronary syndrome. In June, GSK launched Arixtra in Japan for the prevention of venous thromboembolism. Successful new NCE launches Tykerb Tyverb, Veramyst and Altabax Sales of Tykerb Tyverb, for breast cancer, were 12 million in the quarter following launch in the USA at the end of March. 1.3.2.2. Raman spectroscopy FT-Raman spectroscopy provides molecular information about both the crystalline and the amorphous phases. It has recently been used to quantify mixtures of polymorphs, utilizing distinct spectral peaks characteristic of each form or factor analysis techniques. One advantage of FT-Raman spectroscopy is that no sample preparation is necessary, thus, the likelihood of inducing phase changes through processing is reduced. However, sample heating is a well-known problem associated with laser Raman spectroscopy, which could result in crystallization of the sample. Non-homogeneities in mixing are another source of error in quantitating the degree of crystallinity 58 ; . Results from the DSC measurements should be interpreted with caution since changes in the physical state of solid dispersions may occur during heating, and the presence of the polymer may influence the melting behavior of the drug e.g. through melting point depression. Thus the Raman results are considered to be a more reliable 31.
